Tetsuwan Birdy

Birdy, of Tetsuwan Birdy, is my favorite anime character. I love the big sister/little brother dynamic she has with Tsutomu; and I adore her exuberant personality. She is also wonderfully designed (character design by Hirotsugu Hamasaki and Kumiko Takahashi). In her American Super Hero styled costume, her feminine form is idealized, rather than pneumatically deformed. This 1996/1997 Madhouse Studios/Bandai Visual Production OVA is directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri though, so it is rather violent.
